How to Eliminate Loose Skin after Weight Loss

If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, you are likely dealing with loose skin on all parts of the body. It may be the extra skin hanging around the stomach or underneath the arms, when the arms are stretched forward. This can often cause an embarrassing situation.

However, there are solutions for eliminating loose skin after weight loss. It is important that the skin stretch when we grow or move, or shrink, after significant weight loss.

When you lose a significant amount of weight very quickly, you also lose the elastic components at different layers of the skin that were once stretched out over the entire body. Because you have not given enough time to adapt to your new slimmer shape, the skin will hang.

Skin that takes time to return to its normal shape is also affected by a variety of other factors including weight loss. This can be age, dehydration, poor nutrition, smoking and excessive exposure to the sun.

However, there are effective steps to eliminate loose skin after weight loss, in an effort to have it return to its tight and toned appearance. These steps include:

•   Stay Hydrated – It is essential to stay hydrated at all times. This is because water is crucial to the process of retaining skin elasticity. It is essential to consume at least one half gallon, or two liters, of fresh water every day.

•   Eat a Proper Diet – Elastin and collagen are the two components of skin that allow it to remain plump and elastic. It is essential to provide the nutrients to last and collagen to maintain their properties. This often includes the need to consume protein-rich foods like legumes, milk, cottage cheese, beans, tofu, fish, nuts and seeds. In addition, it will help promote healthier skin.

•   Avoid Quick Weight Loss – While it might already be too late, losing weight too quickly can have a dramatic effect on the skin and its underlying muscular structure. Instead of quick weight loss, consider losing 1 to 2 pounds every week while promoting weight lifting to enhance lean muscle mass. This will minimize the problem of sagging or loose skin.

•   Proper Skin Care – The skin needs proper nutrients and moisture to stay healthy. Attempt to exfoliate the skin every few days to remove dead cells and improve blood flow circulation and all layers of the skin. Consider taking a hot bath with minerals and sea salts to improve the tone of the skin, and use herbal formulas and tightening creams that contain aloe vera, soy protein and yeast extract, along with vitamins A, C & E, essential to the formation of collagen and elastin.

As a last resort, surgery can be more effective for eliminating loose skin after weight loss than all the remedies above. Typically, age is the only factor that cannot be controlled with losing elasticity and plumpness in the skin. Staying out of the sun, keeping hydrated, and consuming a proper diet can make a dramatic impact on the quality and tone of the skin.
